Illuminares Plans Return To Trout Lake
/Public Dreams will bring the beloved Illuminares Lantern Festival back to Trout Lake for 2012. This incredibly popular East Vancouver event had been moved downtown for the past two years due to construction at Trout Lake, but will likely return to its original home on July 21, 2012.
“Initial talks with the City of Vancouver have been promising and we anticipate that we’ll receive the green light.” says Azfir, Creative Director at Public Dreams.
Illuminares was first launched in 1986 and what began as a small community lantern festival has grown to be one of Vancouver’s largest and most beloved arts events. This year’s theme is “Let Your Bright Light Shine!”. Through the creation of the event, we’ll explore what it means to let one’s inner light shine brightly and what the impact on our neighbourhoods, cities, country and the world would be if everyone had the motivation and freedom to do so.
Illuminares has always had a community focus, however, this year marks the beginning of several new initiatives that will allow the community to become even more involved. By creating several opportunities for artistic expression, artists and performers of all ages, levels and abilities will beinvited to submit work based on the theme.
Illuminares’ return to Trout Lake needs financial support from the public to make it happen. With the anticipated increase of costs in 2012 due to use of public park space, the lean production budget for Illuminares will significantly increase to satisfy the City’s post 2011 riot traffic, safety and security requirements. Public support will be integral in continuing this beloved East Vancouver arts event for years to come.

What does it mean to let one’s inner light shine, and what would the impact be on communities, cities, the world if everyone had the ability to do so?
