Join staff from Cultural Services and Vancouver's West End Planning Team for a West End cultural asset mapping session.

Participants can drop in at any time between 9 am and noon.

Participants will be asked to identify and map cultural assets in the West End and explain their significance. For this session a wider and inclusive definition of culture is sought, which would include businesses, organizations, and programming that goes beyond the dominant definition of culture.

Vancouver Chamber Choir Appoints New Pacifica Singers Conductor

The Vancouver Chamber Choir and Artistic Director Jon Washburn are pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Zakresky as the new conductor of Pacifica Singers. This is the fourth season for Pacifica Singers, an associate vocal ensemble of the Vancouver Chamber Choir. They perform with the Vancouver Chamber Choir regularly each season and also present one or two independent concerts.

Employment Standards Extended To Children Who Work In Live Entertainment

Children who work in live entertainment are now protected by employment standards legislation in BC. The changes, which took effect July 1, set conditions of employment for children aged 4-14 who perform and rehearse in theatre, dance, music, opera or circus events.

Places That Matter Plaque Presentation at Choklit Park

Places That Matter is a plaque project celebrating the 125th anniversary of the incorporation of the city. The Vancouver Heritage Foundation asked for the public’s help to identify and mark 125 sites commemorating people, places and events that have shaped the city and that matter to Vancouverites.

The Vancouver Heritage Foundation will present a Places That Matter Plaque to Choklit Park on Monday, July 16th at Choklit Park (West 7th Ave and Spruce) at 9:30am with Charles and Karen Flavelle of Purdy’s Chocolates.

UPDATE Deaf and disability arts

In alignment with its strategic plan, Strengthening Connections 2011-16, and its overall commitment to equity and access, the Canada Council for the Arts has published Expanding the Arts: Deaf and Disability Arts, Access and Equality Strategy, and has expanded the Equity Office Capacity Building Initiative for the sector as a key component of that strategy. The Council today posted the full strategy on-line in accessible formats and released the results of that competition.
