Alcuin Society Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada

The Alcuin Society has announced the winners of its 31st annual Alcuin Society Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada.

The winning books will be exhibited in Germany at the Frankfurt and Leipzig Book Fairs; in Japan, at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, in conjunction with the Tokyo International Book Fair; and, in Canada, in nine provinces. Exhibition venues will be posted on the Alcuin Society website. The books will also be entered in the international book design competition in Leipzig, Germany in February 2014.

Union of BC Performers Concludes Negotiations For BC Master Production Agreement

Negotiations between the UBCP / ACTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) formally concluded on March 12, 2013.

After nearly a year and a half of bargaining, the Union of BC Performers / ACTRA has reached a tentative agreement for a new British Columbia Master Production Agreement to be placed before the Membership for ratification.

Call For Applications: 2013 Jules Léger Prize For New Chamber Music

This annual prize for Canadian composers, valued at $7,500, is designed to encourage the creation of new chamber music and to foster its performance by Canadian chamber groups.

The prize is open to professional Canadian composers. To be considered for the prize, you must be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status, as defined by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. You do not need to be living in Canada when you apply.

The Historica-Dominion Institute invites youth (ages 14 to 29) of Aboriginal descent (Status, Non-Status, Inuit and Métis) to create a short piece of writing or two-dimensional piece of art for a chance to win up to a $2,000 and a trip to a major Canadian city to be honoured at the Awards Reception & Exhibition.
