City Opera Scores Largest Commissioning Grant In Canadian History

Thoughts On The Budget

As expected, the budget presented by the provincial government on Tuesday, held to a “stand pat” strategy. 

We were disappointed to see that yet again the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Finance were not followed.  Given the current political and economic climates, however, we have not been surprised. 

A small degree of freedom and flexibility have been provided for the next Premier of British Columbia.

Evergreen Cultural Centre announces new Visual Arts Manager

COQUITLAM – The Evergreen Cultural Centre announce the appointment of Astrid Heyerdahl as the new Visual Arts Manager. Astrid joined the staff last week and is responsible for the development and implementation of all visual arts programs at Evergreen, including administrative and curatorial duties in the Art Gallery and art education programs, workshops and tours.

MAX: New Metro Vancouver Arts Event Calendar

On February 25, 2011 Metro Vancouver launched MAX (Metro Arts Xperience), a free online arts and culture guide for arts organizations and individuals across the lower mainland to post their arts events, arts organization information and arts venue information.

The website includes maps, images, video, social media tools and links to media reviews. Metro Vancouver Staff will be working to promote the site to residents and tourists as well as to support arts organizations with any technical issues or questions about the site.

Simon Brault To Speak In Vancouver

Simon Brault, Canada Council vice-chair, CEO of the National Theatre School, and the author of No Culture, No Future, will give a talk in Vancouver at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 6 in the Birmingham Studio at the Scotiabank Dance Centre.
