Creative Renewal: How Art Can Save Us Now - Arlene Goldbard

Arlene Goldbard gave a really important perspective on arts advocacy and a framework for policy development at the Dialogue presented by the International Centre of Art for Social Change last Sunday.

I think this would be really useful reading as we move forward and try to engage our audiences and convince politicians and decision-makers.

We need to tell stories – we need to use our artistry and our creativity to engage our audiences to articulate why arts and culture matter.

City Council & Park Board To Receive Reports on North East False Creek Plans

Make Your Voice Heard.

Your Alliance has been participating in a series of consultative roundtables as the City moves forward on plans for development of the Northeast False Creek (NEFC) area.

These plans include a number of options for public spaces and cultural amenities, and final staff reports will presented to Park Board and to City Council's Standing in the coming week. There are opportunities to address both Park Board and City Council at those times.

A Celebration of the life of Lloyd Nicholson

 

The Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company, Royal City Musical Theatre and Studio 58 will lead the Vancouver arts community in a Memorial and Celebration of the life of Lloyd Nicholson on Monday, October 26 at the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre (Hamilton & Dunsmuir) beginning at 7pm. 

Lloyd Nicholson passed away unexpectedly on October 14 in Ottawa. He was working on the remount of the Playhouse’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone at the National Arts Centre.

SCHOOL BOARD ANNOUNCES IT HAS NO INTENTION OF PRESERVING 60 YEAR OLD CULTURAL GEM

At the School District 40 Board meeting on September 29, 2009, an Engineer’s report was presented to the Board of Trustees detailing the potential cost of improvements to the Massey Theatre at a price tag of $18,000,000.  The replacement cost of the busy 1260 seat, largely self-funded theatre is estimated at $100,000,000.
