Reflections on Arts Summit 2010

I’ve had the weekend to reflect, and have had several conversations about and received feedback on Arts Summit 2010, which was held June 24/25 at the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre in Surrey, BC.

Thanks again to all of you who participated as presenters, volunteers, and registrants.

Vanessa Richards guided us in her charismatic and gentle way through the two days, and for that, I am grateful.

Thank you for attending Arts Summit 2010

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Arts Summit last week. We believe that important ideas and some practical action plans were discussed and hatched. It was great to see everyone who turned out; there were so many arts leaders in the house. Special thanks to Arlene Goldbard for her keynote and workshop. We look forward to sharing the text with our members as soon as we can. It was great to see Spencer Chandra Herbert attend this event and we regret not being able to convene a provincial panel, but Minister Krueger was not available. We know that Spencer Chandra Herbert is a strong advocate for our sector and we hope to work with him and any other elected officials who want to engage in dialogue.

Why Attend Arts Summit 2010?

Make Your Voice Heard ...

by Amir Ali Alibhai, Executive Director, Alliance for Arts and Culture

This is a critical time in the life of the arts and cultural sector across this province, and it is, as we should not forget, a critical time for many other sectors that comprise our civil society.

It seems that our efforts to engage the provincial government in dialogue have failed, and we continue to be met with bewildering decisions about funding and support for arts and culture.
