Elvie, as the Festival Director, was the glue that held the Children's Festival together for over 23 years and will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of working with her. She dedicated herself to the thousands of children who attended the Festival and no task was too great. Elvie was the living memory of the Festival bringing wisdom, enthusiasm and passion to her work on a daily basis.

The Vancouver Heritage Foundation last week launched its new public art exhibit “Room at the Roxy”, on the CBC Art Wall.

The exhibit is a production still from the 1957 studio-shot drama, “A Room at the Roxy”, captured by CBC Vancouver staff photographer Alvin Armstrong. The image features a critical moment in the drama and gives the illusion of capturing a real moment in time. Evident at the edge of the image is the stage setting and artificial walls, designed to allow camera mobility while creating the illusion of a gritty hotel street entrance.

The BC Cultural Crawl provides a vehicle for arts, cultural, heritage and tourism organizations within a community to work together. The results are more strongly integrated communities with tourism and cultural sectors working in tandem.

The City of Vancouver is seeking proposals from qualified Vancouver-based arts and cultural non-profit organizations who may be interested in a long term lease for nominal rent of an approximately 44,000 square foot cultural amenity space located at 140 West 1st Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, that is suitable for performance, exhibition, rehearsal, production, storage and office space.

Eligibility: Proponents should be established non-profit arts and cultural organizations based in Vancouver.

Vancouver alternative theatre pioneer Jackie Crossland (right, with Nora D Randall) will be remembered on Sunday, June 17th, from 2 to 5 p.m. at The Firehall Art Centre. 

Jackie died of cancer on May 30, only a month after her diagnosis. During that month her chosen family of friends surrounded her partner, Nora D Randall, and her long-time friend, Polly Bak, with love, kindness, wisdom, and practical support.

The Alliance for Arts and Culture will present Kelly Hill, of Hill Strategies, speaking on "BC’s Cultural Climate: Understanding the Effect of the Arts on our Economy and Society" at a free public presentation from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21 in the Exhibition Hall at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre.

Hill Strategies Research is a Canadian company that specializes in applying social science research methods to the arts sector.
