EVENT: BC Buds at Firehall & Other Venues

Now celebrating its sixth year, the hugely successful BC Buds Spring Performing Arts Fair is getting bigger and better.

This year’s fair will be held May 21, 22, & 23 at the Firehall Arts Centre, and with the support of the City of Vancouver's Great Beginnings program is expanding to other venues in the Firehall’s neighbourhood.

BC Buds is Vancouver's longest running multi-disciplinary showcase of emerging artists and emerging works of established artists.

A Call-out to all professional artists who were “saved” by their school arts-based programs

Hello there, my name is Marnie Perrin and I'm the Artistic Director of the Surrey Children's Festival, I'm a stilt-performer, and I'm a mother of two creative young daughters.  I attended the School Trustees Public Forum discussing the budget shortfalls for the VSB on April 18th and was shocked at what I heard.  The budget shortfall affects all school districts in BC.  Band programs across the board are on the chopping block.  If children don’t have access to art programs in school, many will not have access, as parents can’t afford private lessons.

The Vancouver 2011 Outgames, Cultural Celebrations Committee is inviting the arts community to a meeting to discuss events that could become part of the Vancouver 2011 Outgames, which will take place July 20, and August 3, 2011.

Nominations Open for City of Vancouver Book Awards

The City of Vancouver is inviting publishers and authors to submit entries for the annual City of Vancouver Book Award.

Books of any genre that demonstrate excellence and contribute to an appreciation and understanding of Vancouver's residents, history, or unique character are eligible to apply for the $2,000 award. The winning book must also exhibit excellence in content, illustration, design and/or format.

NEWS: Culture Days Announced

Two Vancouver arts groups, The Arts Club Theatre and Arts Umbrella, have announced their participation in a Canada-wide celebration of arts and culture scheduled for September 24 to 26.

Plans for Culture Days, a free annual event that invites people to celebrate and explore arts and culture in every province and territory in Canada, were unveiled today (April 20) at events in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Prince Edward Island.
