Registration is now open for participation in this year’s BC Culture Days, taking place September 26, 27, and 28, and a series of workshops are being offered across the province for event organizers interested in knowing more about this nation-wide initiative.

Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Shelly Glover today announced the appointment of Simon Brault as director and CEO of the Canada Council for the Arts for a term of five years effective June 26, 2014.

Brault was first appointed to the Canada Council as vice-chair in 2004 and was reappointed in 2009 for a second five-year term, which ended March 31, 2014.

Applications are now being accepted from youth aged 13-25 for the OneLove Mentorship Program 2014: Mental Health and Art Therapy.  The program, whose theme changes annually, is presented by ArtQuake, a Vancouver based youth-led, youth-driven non-profit focused on cultivating social change through art.

The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development announced today 41 recipients of infrastructure grants through the BC Creative Spaces program.  The program, which provides $804,000 in funding, will help arts and cultural organizations in communities across the province develop new spaces, improve existing facilities, and purchase or upgrade specialized equipment. 

On April 9 the BC Legislature will celebrate the achievements of BC’s publishing industry with a proclamation and an exhibition of BC-published books at the Parliament Buildings in Victoria.

BC Book Day will be an opportunity for MLAs and staff to meet the province’s publishers, authors, writers’ festivals directors, librarians and booksellers, and for all to mark the extent of the BC publishing industry’s contribution to BC’s economy and culture.
