Women: Yoko Ono Wants Your Story

The Vancouver Art Gallery has announced a call for submissions from individuals who self-identify as women as part of an installation in an upcoming exhibition by visionary artist Yoko Ono. Ono invites women of all ages worldwide to send a testament of harm inflicted on them, along with a photograph of their eyes.

All statements of harm and photographs will be exhibited in Ono’s ARISING, an ongoing installation that has been shown internationally and is part of the exhibition, GROWING FREEDOM: The instructions of Yoko Ono, which will be on view at the Vancouver Art Gallery on October 9, 2021 until May 1, 2022.

The deadline for submissions is open.

YOU ARE INVITED TO SEND A TESTAMENT OF HARM DONE TO YOU

FOR BEING A WOMAN.

WRITE YOUR TESTAMENT IN YOUR OWN LANGUAGE,

IN YOUR OWN WORDS, AND WRITE HOWEVER OPENLY YOU WISH.

YOU MAY SIGN YOUR FIRST NAME IF YOU WISH,

BUT DO NOT GIVE YOUR FULL NAME.

SEND A PHOTOGRAPH ONLY OF YOUR EYES.

THE TESTAMENTS OF HARM AND PHOTOGRAPHS OF YOUR EYES

WILL BE EXHIBITED IN MY INSTALLATION, ARISING,

OCTOBER 9, 2021–MAY 1, 2022

AS PART OF MY EXHIBITION, GROWING FREEDOM.

THE INSTALLATION ARISING WILL CONTINUE TO GROW
