One June 28, the BC Museums Association announced that Erica Mattson, who has served as BCMA’s Executive Director since September 2016, will be departing the role in early July. Theresa Mackay, who was Erica’s predecessor in the role, will be joining the organization as interim Executive Director beginning July 8, 2019 while BCMA completes a search for a new Executive Director.

“As the President of the Board, I would like to thank Erica Mattson for her exceptional stewardship of the organization,” said BCMA President Tania Muir. “Under Erica’s leadership, the BCMA has developed critical new relationships, enhanced our services to members, and has been in a position to deliver much needed funding and support to the cultural sector in B.C. In particular, I would like to acknowledge Erica’s work to initiate the Indigenous Advisory Committee, support the GLAM partnership and annual symposium, the launch of the mentorship program and podcast series, and her oversight of the B.C. | Canada 150 Legacy Program in partnership with the Province of British Columbia delivering $7.6 million in grants for cultural heritage projects across the province.”

“It’s been an honour to serve B.C.’s museums and cultural community during my time with the BC Museums Association,” says Erica. “My favourite part of the job has always been my interactions with BCMA members, and I want to thank everyone who took the time to tour me through their institutions and share ideas about how to support museums in B.C. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many passionate people across B.C., as well as in other parts of Canada and internationally, all dedicated to supporting museums, galleries, cultural centres and historic sites and developing arts, culture and heritage.”

BCMA is now accepting applications for the Executive Director role. Interested candidates can view the job description on the BCMA website. The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on July 22, 2019.
