BC Community Infrastructure Projects Supported as Part of Canada 150

The beneficiaries of a $300 million federal fund set up to celebrate Canada 150 include several arts, culture and heritage groups from British Columbia, as well as groups upgrading important cultural monuments and facilities.

The recipients of the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program include:

  • The Corporation of Delta: Rehabilitate the historic Delta Municipal Hall ($500,000)
  • The University of British Columbia: Renovate the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver ($500,000)
  • City of Vancouver: Expand Vancouver's central library into its top two floors and create a public roof garden ($500,000)
  • The Belfry Theatre Society: Upgrade the Belfry Theatre in Victoria ($340,000)
  • City of Surrey: Replace the roof on Newton Library in Surrey ($300,000)
  • The Western Front Society: Renovate the Western Front heritage building in Vancouver ($240,000)
  • Chinese Cultural Centre Of Greater Vancouver: Upgrade Chinese Cultural Centre in Vancouver ($215,000)
  • City of Burnaby: Renovate and enhance the 2nd floor, Bob Prittie Metrotown Branch, Burnaby Public Library ($176,643)
  • Rossland Historical Museum & Archives Association: Renovate the Rossland Museum ($175,000)
  • Sto:lo Nation: Upgrade Sto:lo Coqualeetza cultural site buildings in Chilliwack ($171,200)
  • City of Surrey: Upgrade the Newton Cultural Centre in Surrey ($150,000)
  • Sumas First Nation: Upgrade the Sumas First Nation Longhouse ($144,250)
  • The Corporation of the Township of Langley: Upgrade the amphitheatre at Willoughby Community Park in Langley ($130,000)
  • Gwaalagaa Naay Corporation & Haida Gwaii Museum: Renovate the Haida Heritage Centre and Haida Gwaii Museum ($130,000)
  • Regional District of North Okanagan: Upgrade Greater Vernon Museum ($100,000)
  • City of Surrey: Replace the Surrey Arts Centre HVAC system ($75,000)
  • Victoria Highland Games Association: Rehabilitate Craigflower Manor in Victoria ($50,000)
  • Sechelt Public Library Association: Upgrade and reconfigure the Sechelt Public Library to make it more accessible ($50,000)
  • Corporation of the Village of Clinton: Upgrade the Clinton Memorial Hall ($44,000)
  • BC Farm Museum Association: Painting museum murals depicting pioneer life ($40,100)
  • Schara Tzedeck Cemetery Board: Rehabilitate Jewish historical burial sites at Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver ($27,600)
  • BC Farm Museum Association: Renovate the workshop area of the British Columbia Farm Museum in Langley ($20,000)
  • North Peace Historical Society: Renovate the exterior of the North Peace Museum in Fort St. John ($17,500)
  • Sayward Community Recreation Association: Erect Monument at the Heritage Hall in Village of Sayward ($11,100)
  • Lower Similkameen Indian Band: Rehabilitate two traditional cultural centres in Keremeos ($10,000)
  • A.S.T.C. Science World Society: Repair and remediate the marine piles of Science World in Vancouver ($487,500)
  • Halalt First Nation: Expand Halalt First Nation's Maht-lit Community Reconciliation Centre in Chemainus ($366,850)
  • Victoria Native Friendship Centre: Renovate the Victoria Native Friendship Centre ($268,145)
  • Barkerville Heritage Trust: Upgrade the campground recreational facilities in Barkerville Historic Town and Park ($250,000)
  • The Corporation of the City of Rossland: Renovate Rossland community centre - the historic Miners Hall ($197,000)
  • Gabriola Arts Council: Upgrade the Gabriola Arts and Heritage Centre ($20,000)
  • The plastic orchid factory society: Renovate a community arts and dance studio in Vancouver ($11,260)
  • Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society: Renovate the facilities at Sarah Wray to provide museum storage and exhibition space ($8,254)
  • Salt Spring Arts Council: Upgrade the Salt Spring Island Mahon Hall to increase energy efficiency ($4,565)
