We're excited to announce that Monica Gattinger (Institute for Science, Society and Policy, University of Ottawa) will host a panel discussion on The Past, Present and Future of Arts Funding in Canada at Unrestricted, our joint conference with the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance. The discussion will take place on the second day of the conference, June 14, in Vancouver.

Gattinger will draw upon her book, The Roots of Culture, the Power of Art: The First Sixty Years of the Canada Council for the Arts, which traces key tensions the Canada Council has navigated throughout its history as it strives for organizational relevance in an ever-changing social, cultural, artistic, technological, political and economic context. With this context in mind, the panel will explore the past, present and future of arts funding, state roles in the arts, and the evolution of arts organizations. What are promising new models of arts funding? What is the responsibility for leadership at and beyond arts councils? What should arts councils be funding? The discussion promises to be challenging and enlightening.

Stay tuned in the weeks to come as we reveal more information about opportunities you can expect at Unrestricted!
