When we join together to create art or share knowledge, we build communities that are greater than the sum of their parts. This June, the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture and the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance come together in the spirit of collaboration. Collaboration allows us to reach out to other artists, other sectors, and other cultural groups to form connections and learn the best practices we can offer each other. But collaboration for its own sake is not enough: how do we choose the right partners? How do we navigate the process of creating together when we may have different mandates, skill sets, or even world views? How do we work together to form collaborations that are meaningful, innovative, and unrestricted?

Unrestricted is a two-day conference, June 13-14 at the BMO Theatre Centre in Vancouver, exploring connections without restriction. Sessions include:

  • a panel on cross-sectoral approaches featuring stars from BC's cultural sector sharing their successes and challenges collaborating with academia, the tech sector, the health sector, the media and more;
  • a look at arts funding in the 21st century, including how innovative and equitable models can lead to more fertile ground for collaboration;
  • programming on diversity and reconciliation, highlighting best collaborative approaches with marginalized and Indigenous communities;
  • a panel of legal experts, who will discuss the growing issue of harassment in the arts, culture and heritage sector.

These discussions serve as anchors for a packed two-day schedule. Choose from over a dozen breakout sessions to customize your Unrestricted experience. Stay tuned in the weeks to come as we reveal more information about opportunities you can expect at Unrestricted.
