Job Description:

The Music Department at Capilano University invites applications for a non-regular Choral Instructor position. This is a unionized position at our North Vancouver campus and will begin on Sept. 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will teach ENSM 100/200 in person during the Fall term and ENSM 150/250 in person during the Spring term, with the possibility of work in future terms.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have the following teaching duties:

- Select repertoire, rehearse and direct the Choral Ensemble, comprised of mainly first and second year Music Diploma students combined with volunteer singers from other programs and the local community
- Organize, promote, and direct concerts.
- Audition new ensemble members. - Evaluate student learning through assessments and marking.
- Provide support to students through weekly office hours and advising and learning resources.

The successful candidate will also be expected to support the Department’s initiatives and provide service to Departmental, Faculty, and University wide committees. These duties include:

- Create and update course materials, outlines, and curriculum.
- Participate in meetings, committees, and events at the program, department, faculty, and university levels.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Music or Conducting or an equivalent performance background, complemented by at least 5 years of proven experience as an ensemble conductor, showcasing adept mentorship abilities. An exceptional understanding of the voice and singing technique, coupled with excellent musicianship and a comprehensive grasp of music theory, technique, and a diversity of choral repertoire, is essential. Furthermore, the candidate should demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and team skills, fostering a collaborative environment and effective communication within a diverse team and student population. The ability to cater to students of all levels and diverse backgrounds, coupled with a passionate commitment to music education, will be pivotal in creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere for the students’ artistic growth.

Remuneration:

$9,420 per instructional section.
