The Realwheels Academy is the only performing arts training program of its kind in Canada, focused on exploring the creation of compelling performance. Centred on the principle that every body and every mind is uniquely creative, the Academy is open to anyone identifying as living with visible or invisible D/disability and/or who is D/deaf and is working towards acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to sustain an entrepreneurial performance practice at a professional level.

Job Description:

Realwheels Theatre is seeking an Academy Manager for the next iteration of the Academy, running 2025-2028.

This position is a key link between all activities of the Academy and the Realwheels leadership. It is an administrative position that also requires some hands-on interaction with faculty and students.

Responsibilities:

The Academy Manager will oversee all aspects of the program. They will:

- Coordinate all communication regarding the Academy program: between faculty and students, and between the Academy and Realwheels staff
- Maintain all Academy-related documents, including curricula, contact information, budget information, etc.
- Liaise between students and faculty
- Collect and maintain all records and files pertaining to students’ profiles
- Be well versed in each student’s access needs
- Communicate with students’ support workers or family when necessary and appropriate
- Facilitate the resolution of issues that arise between students, faculty, and management
- Be familiar with the company’s Code of Conduct and Anti-Harassment Policy, and implement it as needed
- Monitor scheduling and address any unanticipated class schedule issues or changes; lead all discussions relating to scheduling adjustments
- Liaise with venue partners around any and all issues that arise
- Coordinate the storage and movement of equipment used for the Academy Program
- Ensure that all program faculty and staff complete current Criminal Record Checks
- Oversee the Academy budget and report regularly to Realwheels management around any issues pertaining to costs
- Meet regularly with the faculty to debrief the progress of the classes and the program as a whole
- Observe classes regularly
- Coordinate any trips the students may take to see shows or other industry events as part of the Academy program
- Attend all Academy-related meetings and keep relevant notes

Qualifications:

Necessary Qualifications
- A minimum of five years’ experience as an administrator
- Strong skills with spreadsheets (Excel/Sheets), Word, Google Drive and and all Google apps.
- Strong English language skills, written and verbal
- Excellent communication and note-taking skills
- Bachelor of Arts degree or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications
- Lived experience of disability OR a history of demonstrated allyship or experience working within the disability community
- Degree in Education and/or Arts Administration
- Experience as a educator
- Conflict resolution training or skills

Remuneration:

This is a contract position for 20 hours per week at a rate of $35/hr. Between each year of the program, the Academy Manager will receive a break of 4 weeks in July/August. The contract starts May 15, 2025.
