Job Description:

Casual Full-Time Position (June 2, 11 and June 30 to July 25, 2025)

Summer Program Assistants play a key role in supporting ECU’s Summer Institute for Teens (SIT - ages 16-18). Program Assistants are assigned to studio classrooms and assist Instructors with classroom management and student engagement. The Assistants support program logistics and administration including attendance, supplies, field trips, documentation, and final student exhibitions. Program Assistants help ensure a positive and inclusive learning experience for all participants.

Responsibilities:

1. Welcome and greet students and take daily attendance
2. Assist instructor in preparing classroom/studio for daily activities and, with guidance from studio technicians, prepare materials and AV / electronic equipment.
3. Assist instructor with classroom activities, monitoring, and student support.
4. Assist instructor with classroom management and student support.
5. Assist instructor with field trip organization and chaperoning of students during outings.
6. Provide lunchtime monitoring of students and assist with any lunchtime activities; engage with students during lunchtime to support their social experience.
7. Liaise between instructor and program staff to ensure seamless daily operations related to classroom and student needs.
8. Assist program staff with administrative tasks as needed.
9. Assist program staff with final student exhibition and related logistics.
10. Other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Minimum: entering third year of an undergraduate program in Education, Design, Arts, or related fields. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 1-3 months of experience working with youth in an educational or community setting and demonstrated interest in teaching and learning.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and in different roles such as instructors, administrative staff, parents/guardians, and students.
• Ability to effectively engage with youth and contribute to a welcoming community of learning.
• High degree of professionalism, reliability, punctuality, and preparedness.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to understand and consistently demonstrate adherence to safety procedures, program and classroom protocols and general instructions.
• Demonstrated initiative, and good judgement in seeking out resources and support as needed.
• Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion, and experience promoting respectful work or learning environments.
