The mandate of the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art is to celebrate the vital and diverse Indigenous cultures of the Northwest Coast through the extraordinary work of Bill Reid and the presentation of exceptional contemporary art. We respectfully acknowledge the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl’il’wətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and all the Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast, on whose traditional and unceded territories we live and work.

Volunteer Opportunity Description:
The Volunteer Project Assistant plays an important role in cataloguing foundational documents of the Bill Reid Foundation. This is a unique opportunity to gain knowledge about non-profit organization and governance. The Project Assistant will also be surrounded by the wonderful artwork of Bill Reid and other Northwest Coast artists, and be given the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Indigenous cultures and values.
The Volunteer Project Assistant will be oriented and supervised by the Operations and Venue Administrator.
Working conditions:
- Open office concept in windowless basement
- Flow of people, noise from ventilation system, mix of carpeted and vinyl floors, full spectrum ceiling lights, scent-reduced space
- Scanning station will be standing / high stool, in a narrow area
- Data entry station at a desk, either in the open office or in a separate room with doors that can be closed
- While the public areas of the gallery are wheelchair accessible, the office is not.
Time Commitment:
- One 3-4 hours shift per week, hours and days flexible (Tuesday-Friday)
- Duration until project completion; ideal commitment of 3 months minimum
This is a one-time project.

Responsibilities:
Specific duties include:
- Scan paper Board minutes in the proper format with text recognition (OCR) – on site only
- File digitized documents on the server following proper naming convention – remote possible
- Create a register of Board resolutions – remote possible
Qualifications:
Skills required:
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail are essential
- Enjoy data entry, spreadsheets
- Comfortable with technology and Microsoft (orientation provided)
- Ability to work within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Fluent in English
- Be at minimum 19 years of age
