The Eastside Arts Society (EAS) is a registered charity that is home to the wildly popular Eastside Culture Crawl Visual Arts, Design & Crafts Festival, the CREATE! Arts Festival and the Eastside Arts District. Now in its 28th year, the EAS programs multiple ground-breaking initiatives to ensure that Art Happens Here, on Vancouver’s Eastside, for decades to come.

Eastside Arts Society Development Committee Members

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

The Eastside Arts Society (EAS) is seeking enthusiastic art lovers and energetic event planners to join our fun and dynamic Development Committee.

What Does the Development Committee Do?
The Development (Dev) Committee plays an essential role in helping the EAS realize its vision of transforming the community through the arts. Through fundraising, events, sponsorship, donorship, and communications, we raise the funds and resources needed to support meaningful arts and cultural programming in the Vancouver Eastside.
The Dev Committee is comprised of EAS board members, members of the community, a staff member and the Managing Director.

The Dev Committee is further made up of the following sub-committees:
• Art + Beer Garden Sub-Committee – supporting our annual Summer Social Beer + Art Garden fundraiser in July
• Silent Auction Sub-Committee – supporting our annual Take Flight online silent auction in October
• Art Roulette Sub-Committee – supporting our annual Take Flight art roulette art draw in October
• Sponsorship Sub-Committee – supporting our annual corporate sponsorship program
• Donation Sub-Committee – supporting our annual donation campaign
• Communications Sub-Committee -- supporting communication materials for all of the above initiatives.

What is the Opportunity?
Opportunities are available to join the Dev Committee and/or any of its sub-committees.

TERM / COMMITMENT

The appointment term for the Dev Committee members is one (1) year (renewable).
General commitments include the following:
• 3 hours/month (with higher levels of commitment leading up to set events – see Sub-committee commitments below)
• Attendance at monthly committee meetings every second Tuesday of the month from 7-8pm
• No meetings in December
• Meetings are primarily virtual with quarterly meetings in-person (virtual participation will be supported)
• Ability to respond to emails/requests within a reasonable timeframe.

Sub-committee commitments vary depending on the timing of events:
• Art + Beer Garden Sub-Committee – 6-month annual commitment January – July
• Silent Auction Sub-Committee – 6-8 month annual commitment from March, April or May – October
• Art Roulette Sub-Committee – 6-8 month annual commitment from March, April or May – October
• Sponsorship Sub-Committee – 6-month annual commitment Jan – July or April - September
• Donation Sub-Committee – 6-month annual commitment May – October
• Communications Sub-Committee – 6-month annual commitment January – June (Sponsorship & Art + Beer fundraiser initiatives) and/or July – Dec (Silent Auction, Art Roulette & Donorship initiatives).

RESPONSIBILITIES

Members of the Dev Committee and its subcommittees work with staff to assist the EAS in meeting its fundraising goals. Key responsibilities include:
General
• Carry out tasks and assignments to support the Society’s fundraising activities
• Leverage personal network to grow donor and supporter base and gain support for fundraising activities
• Investigate new and emerging development trends, approaches, activities, and ideas for possible use in the future

Art + Beer Garden, Silent Auction and Art Roulette Sub-Committee Members:
• Work with staff to successfully execute yearly events
• Identify new and reach out to known event sponsors during the planning process (i.e. as it relates to securing silent auction donations, event sponsors)
• Promote and support fundraising events/activities by attending, volunteering, securing new event attendees and/or giving monetary in-kind assistance to the level that committee members are able

Sponsorship Committee Members:
• Identify, research, and make connections where appropriate with potential/prospective sponsors

Donorship Committee Members:
• Identify, research, and make connections where appropriate with potential/prospective donors, donor groups or campaign concepts
• Assist with planning and stewarding annual campaigns
• Research and provide recommendations on development topics (e.g., planned giving, annual fund, campaigns, etc.) for Board consideration

Communications Committee Members:
• Assist with the drafting, reviewing and/or editing of communication materials, such as sponsor letters, sponsor packages and donor campaign letters/promo video narrative
• Review and recommend communications and marketing activities to increase awareness of the Society.

What We’re Looking For:
Here are a few qualities that describe our ideal candidate:
• Passionate about the arts and/or community development
• Skills, interest and/or experience in sponsorship outreach, volunteer leadership, marketing, creative writing, donorship, and/or event planning
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and time management skills
• Confident in engaging and nurturing relationships with donors, supporters and sponsors
• Willingness to promote initiatives to personal and professional networks
• At least 19 years of age.
