JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is a permanent, full-time role with the expectation of a long-term commitment.
Open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
While MascallDance does not maintain a physical office, this role is based in Vancouver. Applicants must confirm that they are based in or will relocate to the Greater Vancouver Area. Relocation assistance is not available.

MascallDance is at an exciting transition in its development and seeks a Managing Director to lead and support us through this evolution. We are looking for a professional arts administrator who knows the world of the arts and can fundraise for the company.
We're looking for someone unflappable, with a great sense of humour, who knows about and likes the work we do.
Reporting to the Board of Directors through the Chair, the Managing Director provides the leadership and vision that ensures the financial and organizational success of MascallDance. They are a key spokesperson, advocate, and visible representative of MascallDance in the communities we serve.
The Managing Director oversees the strategic direction and day-to-day operation of MascallDance. They are responsible and accountable for the overall management of MascallDance’s business.
The person we're looking for is very familiar with the characteristics of live arts, an experienced grant writer, and already works in the non-profit sector.

The Managing Director advocates for equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives that are grounded in partnerships and committed to inviting historically excluded voices into MascallDance’s workspace, boardroom, backstage, and through MascallDance productions and community programming.
By stewarding effective funding submissions and earned revenue outcomes, the Managing Director balances the need for artistic vibrancy with fiscal responsibility. They work closely with the Artistic Director on fundraising for the company and work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure good governance, communication, and transparency.
The position requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with artists, donors, board members, community leaders, and administrative and artistic staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations:
Develop and implement strategies to achieve the company's financial and operational goals, coordinating with the Board of Directors and other staff
Manage the Transition Plan with the Artistic Associates, coordinating day-to-day operations and adjusting as required
Apply a thorough knowledge of how the sector works, and lead compliance nationally, provincially, and locally
Develop strategies to increase the sustainability of existing programs, including expanding the audience base without sacrificing the quality of the work
Engage in visioning, strategizing, and hands-on implementation
Work in a mixture of in-person and remote environments
Finance:
Ensure the overall sustainability of MascallDance through fundraising, efficiencies, and revenue opportunities
Work with the Artistic Director to ensure artistic programming aligns with effective short- and long-term financials
Communicate with relevant parties on budget projections, shortfalls, and cash flow
Manage the annual audit process with contracted auditors
Maintain the company’s books and partner with the contracted bookkeeper
Manage monthly reconciliations, coding, payroll, remittances, and required filings
Human Resources:
Recruit, hire, onboard, and mentor new team members and contractors
Establish goals and responsibilities for all positions
Develop an environment that supports excellence across the MascallDance community
Develop and manage policies for employer/employee interactions
Fundraising:
Identify and cultivate new sources of financial support
Develop and oversee the annual fundraising plan
Lead fundraising and stewardship activities
Maintain positive relationships with donors, sponsors, government agencies, and other funders
Marketing and Communications:
Oversee the company’s newsletter, blog, website, and social media in collaboration with contracted personnel
Oversee campaign execution and develop multi-year and annual marketing strategies
Board Relations:
Collaborate with the Board to establish long-term goals, policies, and governance structures
Keep the Board regularly informed on opportunities, shortfalls, and circumstances affecting the organization
Support Board recruitment efforts
Attend and participate in all Board and sub-committee meetings as an Ex-Officio member
QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional arts administrator
Very familiar with the characteristics of live arts
Experienced grant writer
Currently working in the non-profit sector
Experienced in fundraising
Bachelor's degree or equivalent

REMUNERATION:
