Record Level BC Arts Council Budget for 2013-14

VICTORIA – Last month, Community, Sport and Cultural Development Minister Bill Bennett announced that the BC Arts Council (BCAC) will receive a budget of $24 million in 2013-14. This represents the highest level of funding in BCAC history. The funding includes $5.25 million for BC Creative Futures, a recently announced three-part strategy to support sustainable, long-term success for the province’s creative sector.

Cultural and Creative Arts Funding Opportunity

The Leon and Thea Koerner Foundation is offering grants between $5,000 and $15,000 in the Cultural and Creative Arts and Social Services.

The Foundation provides this funding to stimulate and invigorate non-profit organizations in these categories who serve communities throughout British Columbia. The Foundation typically funds new programs or projects that have a significant impact on the community served by the applicant. New variations or a different phase of an existing innovative program will be considered.

City Council Approves By-law Changes Supporting Artist Studios in Industrial Areas

Proposed amendments to the zoning and development by-law to support artist studios in industrial areas have been unanimously approved by Vancouver City Council. 

In response to issues of affordability, shortage and loss of studios, and clarity and flexibility of regulations, the policy report was issued January 7 requesting an application to amend the by-law to expand opportunities for "work-only" artist studios in all industrial districts, and was referred to a February 5 public hearing.
