Update: Call for Artist Studio Operator

The City of Vancouver is seeking Proposals from Proponents interested in leasing City-owned industrial spaces that Proponents would convert and operate as multiple, affordable, accessible artist studios and production spaces.

The City's preference is to support Proposals led by Vancouver-based non-profit arts and cultural organizations. For-profit organizations, artist collectives, or individuals interested in submitting a proposal are strongly encouraged to partner with a Vancouver-based arts and cultural non-profit organization.

New Courses in Cultural Planning from the UBC Centre for Cultural Planning and Development

The University of British Columbia’s new international Centre for Cultural Planning and Development is pleased to announce the launch of the UBC Certificate in Cultural Planning – a 100% online learning program authored and taught by senior practitioners from around the globe. Courses are 8-10 weeks in length and can be taken individually for professional development purposes. Beginning in 2013, 6 courses can also  be combined to earn the Certificate.

Canada Council’s Jacqueline Lemieux Prize Awarded to Kidd Pivot Dance Company's Artistic Director

Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite – artistic director of Vancouver dance company Kidd Pivot – is the 2012 recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts’ Jacqueline Lemieux Prize (valued at $6,000), which is awarded annually to an established dance artist who has made a significant contribution to dance in Canada. The award will be presented to Pite on September 27 at a ceremony at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, immediately preceding the Canadian premiere of Kidd Pivot’s latest work, The Tempest Replica.

Tsawwassen Art Teacher Receives Mentor of the Arts Award

Each year, the Tsawwassen Sun Festival Society recognizes a community member representing a specific discipline of the arts for their contribution and leadership. The 2012 award recipient is Tsawwassen art teacher, Alii Wright.
